The urban-type settlement of Veliky Berezny was first mentioned in written sources as early as 1409. The state tax list for 1427 States that Berezno-a rural settlement with 33 farmyards, is in the possession ofUzhgorod dominions of Druget graphs. At the end of the XVIII century in Berezny settled Slovak immigrants who are engaged in the craft here. An important event for the economic development of the village was the construction of the railway in 1894. In the 1920s and 30s of the XX century, Veliky Berezny was the district administrative center. Since 1947, Veliky Berezny has become an urban-type settlement and district center. In 1980-ies in Velikij Bereznyj worked bakery, rapidemment, juice plant, industrial and other enterprises.

The village has two secondary schools, a vocational school and a music school. The population of the village is about 6800 people. The village is located on the right Bank of the river Uzh. A road and railway pass through it Uzhgorod-Sambor-Lviv.

Great Berezny there is no opportunity to brag architectural monuments, however, can give the imagination of a typical Transcarpathian district center.

Still in the village preserved Park, which was founded as early as 1866. There are more than 250 species of trees, including rare species.
