John Douglas Lord (1941-2012) is a world-famous British \nrock musician, founder of the legendary rock band Deep Purple.<\/p>\n\n

A mini-sculpture of this famous musician was installed in Uzhgorod<\/a> November 27, 2014. It is located on the Independence Embankment opposite the Linguistic gymnasium (GPS: 48.622475, 22.296944). Coincidentally, at the opening of this sculpture river Uzh<\/a> it was covered in fog, as if reflecting the famous song of the band – “Smoke on the water”. Fans of rock music were invited to the opening, who enjoyed the melodies of the legendary Deep Purple.<\/p>\n\n

The idea of creating this mini-sculpture appeared in 2012, \nafter the death of a rock legend. At the same time, fundraising began in the cafe “Under Lock and key”. \nFor the creation of the sculpture collected 584 UAH in coins, which is 16 kg. First appeared \nan original idea to pour a sculpture out of coins, but in order for John Lord to come out good \nand high-quality, we decided to use bronze.<\/p>\n\n

Jon Lord is depicted as a classic rocker of those times: \ndrop glasses, vest, shoes with heels, cigarette in ruts\u0456.<\/p>\n\n

As told by Mikhail Kolodko, the author of the sculpture: “In glasses \nJohn Lord reflects an entire era when only Soviet pop music was played on TV, \nand Transcarpathians could secretly listen on the waves of the forbidden Hungarian radio \nthe legendary Deep Purple”. It is from Transcarpathia, where due to the proximity of the border it was possible to \nlisten to the radio and record Western rock hits, songs of Deep Pup and other Western \nrock bands spread throughout the USSR.<\/p>\n

An interesting legend associated with a famous musician posted in his \nin the book “Uzhgorod \u2013 the world capital of mini-sculptures” Nadezhda Popadyuk. According to this legend, \nfamous hit Smoke on the Water (“Smoke over water”) founder of the rock band Deep Purple \nJohn Lord wrote not in the Swiss city of Montreux, but in 1970 in Uzhgorod. Fate \nshe arranged it so that young John Lord fell in love with a very beautiful stranger, who accidentally \nsaw on the embankment of the river Uzh. Looking into her charming blue eyes, lost \na sense of reality, as if charmed, he followed her. He followed the girl \nby the banks of the river until five in the morning, and only then realized that he himself did not know anything \nremembers, except for the deep fog and smoke over the water. It took him a long time to forget the face \nthe girl and until his last breath, he could not figure out if she was real, \nor it’s just a haze.<\/p>\n\n

In 2012, after the death of John Lord, over Uzhgorod rose \nthick fog, and the river was covered with impenetrable smoke, the city was sad. Only in the next one \nin the morning, Uzhgorod residents saw a mini-sculpture of the musician, which settled on the railing \non the embankment above the river, Hoping to see those incredible blue eyes again.<\/p>\n\n
