He came from a noble family (a descendant of the prophet Mohammed). He studied at the University of Cordoba, one of the first institutions of higher education <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/transcarpathia-center-europe\/\">Europeans<\/a>. Later in 1138, he moved to Palermo. He was taken into service by the ruler of Sicily, Roger II. By order of the king, he organized several geographical expeditions to create a detailed map of the world. The full title of this 1154 work is &#8220;the joy of one who longs to cross the world&#8221;. In the map and work Muhammad is mentioned the city of Gunbar (Ung) in the Eastern <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/unikalnij-muzej-gir\/\">Carpathian<\/a>. This record is considered the oldest written mention of the city <a href=\"https:\/\/go-to.rest\/blog\/uzhgorod-perl-carpathians\/\">Uzhgorod<\/a>. Later, in Hungarian documents, our city was called Ungvar, that is, &#8220;the castle over the river Ung&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p>An interesting legend about the mini-sculpture of Muhammad al-Idrisi tells&#13;\nin his book &#8220;Uzhgorod \u2013 the world capital of mini-sculptures&#8221; Nadezhda Popadyuk. According to legend,&#13;\nit was an Arab traveler, traveling around the world, who first brought grain to Transcarpathia&#13;\ncoffee, that is, for the first time in Ukraine, this drink appeared in Uzhgorod. Consumption first&#13;\n&#8220;kavilu&#8221; was synonymous with wealth and luxury, and then became a daily tradition.&#13;\nToday, Transcarpathians drink about 100 thousand liters of coffee a day, and Uzhgorod&#13;\nit is deservedly called the capital of the most delicious coffee.<\/p>\n<div class=\"vlp-link-container vlp-template-default \">\n\t<a
