This mini-sculpture was opened in the city Uzhgorod<\/a> 2December 2, 2014, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the invention of the Rubik’s cube. This popular puzzle was invented by a famous Hungarian<\/a> sculptor erne Rubik in 1974. A year later in 1975, he patented his invention, calling it the “magic cube”. But it went down in history as a Rubik’s cube. Very quickly, it gained popularity around the world. As early as 1980, every fifth inhabitant of the planet Earth turned a Rubik’s cube.<\/p>\n\n

This mini-monument is located close to mini-sculpture “Svoboda”<\/a> \u2013on the railings of the “consular” stairs to the pedestrian bridge (GPS: 48.621257, 22.297796).<\/p>\n\n

The opening of this mini-sculpture was attended by the Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozef Bachkai, the sculptor Mikhail Kolodko and the head of the Department of tourism of Uzhnu Fedor Sandor. At the opening, they cut ribbons in the colors of the flags of Ukraine and Hungary. On the eve of the opening of the mini-sculpture with the participation of the Consulate General of Hungary in Uzhgorod, the “consular stairs”were repaired. In addition to the mini-sculpture, this area has been equipped with other tourist attractions: there are “pointers” with the distance to European city<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

The production of this mini-masterpiece was spent 1 \na kilogram of bronze. Made according to the standard size of a Rubik’s cube. What \nsymbolically, Mikhail Kolodko, the author of the sculpture, made it not in Ukraine, but in \nHungary, in the city of Debrecen.<\/p>\n

The original legend about this mini-sculpture is narrated in his book “Uzhgorod \u2013 the world capital of mini-sculptures” by Nadezhda Popadyuk. According to this legend, in 1976, the Hungarian inventor, sculptor and Professor of architecture erne Rubik, world-famous for his three-dimensional puzzles and their toys, came to Uzhgorod to present a mechanical puzzle Rubik’s cube. Erne was struck by the beauty of the city’s architecture. Uzhom<\/a>.Before returning to Budapest, erne Rubik decided to symbolically say goodbye to the city. Standing on the steps of the pedestrian bridge, he took a toy from his pocket \u2013 a Rubik’s cube-and threw it with all his strength into the river, so that, as he said, he could once again return to this amazing city. Each of the six faces of the cube consisted of nine squares and was colored in one of six colors: red, orange, white, yellow, blue, and green. In the water, the cube immediately lost color and turned from plastic to copper. The next day it was found by a local fisherman, and the residents of Uzhgorod decided to install the cube on the railing of the stairs of the pedestrian bridge, exactly in the place where erne Rubik stood when he threw it into the water (opposite Philharmonics<\/a>).<\/p>\n
