The city of Irshava is located on both banks of the Irshavki river-tributaries of the river Borzhavy<\/a>. The modern name of the city comes from the word “rusty”, since the Irshavtsi contains a large amount of iron oxide and the water in it has the appropriate color. Old Hungarian<\/a> name Irshava-Ilosvay – by the name of its owners.<\/p>\n\n

The population of Irshava is about 9500 people. Distance to Uzhgorod’s<\/a> 83 kilometers. To the nearest railway station in Vinogradov <\/a>the distance of 25 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n

For the first time about Irshavu in historical written sources \nit was mentioned as early as 1341. Then Irshava and the surrounding area were owned \nfeudal lords of Iloshvay.<\/p>\n\n

During the kurut revolt 1703-1711<\/a> years Arshavina became one of the main theatres of war. Many residents of Irshava joined the ranks of the army Ferenc II Rakoczy<\/a>. For most of its history, Irshava was a feudal dependent settlement. Only at the endXIX century<\/a> Irshava received the right to free trade. In 1911 from Sevlyush (Vinogradov<\/a>) \u0434in Irshava was built narrow gauge railway. On October 25, 1944, Irshava was liberated from the Nazi invaders. Since 1982 Irshava has received the status of district center<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Irshava cannot boast of interesting historical monuments. But all lovers of narrow gauge Railways should visit this city for the sake of the railwayBeregovo<\/a>-Kushnitsa, which also passes through Irshava. The same branch of the narrow gauge railway operates from Irshava to Vinogradov.<\/p>\n\n
