The Transcarpathian village of Velyatyno in the Khust district of the Transcarpathian region is known for its buffaloes. Velyatyno is one of the few villages in Ukraine where these half-ton animals are kept. Researchers believe that the first buffaloes could have reached Transcarpathia together with the troops of Khan Batia. The largest number of buffaloes in Velyatyno was during Soviet times. Buffaloes are an excellent traction force. Their milk has a fat content of 4 to 12%. Buffalo milk contains several times more nutrients and useful substances than cow’s milk. It is highly enriched with calcium. This drink is capable of removing radionuclides and treating ulcers, strengthening the immune system, purifying the circulatory system, and preventing osteochondrosis.
